Holy Child Conference
Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay ministry organization that offers person-to-person services to those within our community who are in need.
As a reflection of the whole family of God, members are drawn from every cultural background and age group, witnessing God’s love by embracing all works of charity and justice. Our outreach collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served, because in them we truly see the face of Christ.
St Vincent DePaul is ready to give food assistance to all Holy Child parishioners and to residents of Glendora or Runnemede with demonstrated need. Other types of assistance may be available, as long as resources allow.
Welcoming/Caring Committee
“In my Father’s house are many rooms. I am going there to prepare a place for you.”
Hospitality is not something to be proclaimed but something that must be lived. It offers an awareness of compassion aimed at peace and filled with joy bring a mindfulness of those around us. Our Welcoming and Caring Committee joyfully receives in visitors and new members to our faith community as well as honoring our current parishioners by staying alert to the needs for encouragement and support.
Hospitality reflects the hospitable heart of God. “In my Father’s house are many rooms. I am going there to prepare a place for you.” When we extend an invitation in the most simplest of ways a card of encouragement or congratulations, a smile or just sharing donuts after a Sunday morning Mass together, we begin to share our common values. In so doing we create a climate where true fellowship and community can be experienced.
We are always looking for volunteers to help in the simplest of way.
Bereavement Support Ministry
Support for adults facing changes and adjustments after the death of a loved one.
This is an eight-week support group meeting twice a year, in the fall and again in early spring. Our Bereavement Support Ministry is based on the belief that grieving the loss of a loved one can be a process of healing. It will be a safe environment where you can share your experiences with others.
You will also be given additional information about grief, bereavement and healing that may help you gain a deeper understanding of the many aspects of grief.
- Support Groups help by offering a confidential and supportive place to share their grief with others
- Allowing members to explore the many feelings and thoughts about their loss and grief
- Introducing members to others who have had similar experiences, thoughts and feelings
Nifty Needler Ministry
What better way to feel loved and comforted then to be wrapped in prayer.
Since 2001 our Nifty Needlers have donated over 2,000 Prayer Afghans. Our time, talent and treasures are donated to our homebound ministry. Names are supplied by parishioners, Nursing Homes within our area, Camilla Hall (Sisters of the Immaculate Heart), Veteran’s Homes, and Children at St John of God, Weisman Rehab, Project Linus and Choices of the Heart. In turn, our volunteers create Afghan, expressing the loving care of God through their amazing handiwork.
Each stitch is created in prayer for God’s love to surround its recipient. Those prayers offer an incredible opportunity to truly touch the heart of someone in need, offering that person a chance to be wrapped in God’s love embrace. This ministry is open to anyone interested in knitting or crocheting an afghan out of the comfort of your own home. Together we can make a difference!
Prayer Quilt Ministry
Prayers in Squares
Have you ever wondered if you can touch a prayer? Well you can through our Prayer Quilt Ministry.
We start by cutting out squares and with each stoke of our scissors a prayer is offered. Each square is passed on to create a special pattern where another set of prayers are offered with each stitched sewn. Heavy thread is then hand sewn in each corner of the squares and the ends are left free to be tied with a square knot and another set of prayers by our parishioners.
It’s not the pattern or workmanship that makes these quilts so special but the fact that prayer is symbolically tied into each one. What an amazing way to touch a prayer by giving testimony to our belief in God’s love and comfort.
